King's College London
King's College London, London, United KingdomGeneral Information
King’s College London (KCL) is one of the top 30 universities in the world (2011/2012 QS international world rankings).
The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) – a School of King’s College London – is Europe’s largest centre for research and postgraduate education in psychiatry, psychology, basic and clinical neuroscience. IoPPN is world-renowned for the quality of its research and, for psychiatry and psychology, is the most cited research centre outside the US and the second most cited research centre in the world – as ranked by Thomson ISI Essential Science Indicators. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework it was judged to have the second highest research power in the UK for Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience, and the impact of its work was 100% world leading or internationally excellent, and its research environment judged as 100% world leading.
IOPPN is closely allied with a health service provider – the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, which provides mental healthcare to a population of 1.2M people in South London, as well as national leadership for mental health, which makes the IoPPN a key institute in AIMS-2-TRIALS.
Role in AIMS-2-TRIALS
KCL is the overall AIMS-2-TRIALS Coordinator, and co-leads the Biomarkers of Autism project, and leads the European Clinical Research Network. Alongside ARTTIC, KCL is responsible for ensuring that the consortium’s contractual duties are carried out according to regulations and legal requirements. It ensures scientific coordination between each Project, leading to high quality collaboration among the consortium. Co-leading on the Biomarkers of autism project means that KCL is directly involved in validating and quantifying a panel of candidate genomic, brain (MRI, EEG), and/or cognitive stratification biomarkers. In addition to leading on the European Clinical Research Network, KCL conducts proof of concept/proof of mechanism and fast fail trials for new medicines.
