The University Medical Center Utrecht (UMCU) is a large university medical center in the Netherlands. Its Department of Psychiatry is involved in numerous large European consortia on the biology of psychiatric disorders and has longstanding expertise in autism spectrum disorder (ASD), clinically, as well as in the investigation of associated neurobiology and in running clinical trials. It has access to many new patients each year and has access to advanced human molecular genetics, two state of the art EEG labs as well as 3T and 7T MRI scanners. It is a training site for diagnostic instruments of autism. In addition, it has a clinical trial center, dedicated to the coordination and monitoring of clinical trials in the context of large-scale European consortia.
Role in AIMS-2-TRIALS
The UMC Utrecht will be involved in the Biomarkers of Autism project, the European Clinical Research Network and in Testing New Medicines.
In the Biomarkers of Autism project, Prof Dr Sarah Durston, Dr Bob Oranje, Prof Dr Maretha de Jonge, and PhD students Sara Ambrosino and Myrte van Langen are involved in the analysis and interpretation of existing and new data from the Longitudinal European Autism Project (LEAP). They will be responsible for running the upcoming phase of the LEAP study at this site.
For the European Clinical Research Network, UMC Utrecht will support creating a trial-ready research network throughout Europe, by developing study document templates and creating feasibility checks.
In Testing New Medicines, Dr Hilgo Bruining, Prof Dr Floor Scheepers, Dr Peter Deschamps, Prof Dr Sarah Durston and Dr Bob Oranje will be responsible for deciding which clinical trials our site will participate in and for coordinating the clinical trials at this site. Dr Inge Winter, Margot Slot and PhD student Elianne Huijsman will be responsible for the project management and site management of the medical trial. This is being done in close cooperation with, Prof Dr Celso Arango, and project management related partners Prof Dr Mara Parellada and Dr Antonia San José Cáceres.
